Straight answer on scope

Swaps and dimmers, yes — new circuits, no

Replacing a fixture at a spot that already has a box, and swapping a switch for a dimmer or smart switch at an existing switch, are everyday handyman jobs. We do them across the Bay Area — San Francisco flats, Oakland and Berkeley bungalows, Peninsula condos — matching dimmers to your LED bulbs and confirming heavy pieces have a box rated for the weight before we hang them.

The honest line is the same as with fans: if the job needs a brand-new circuit, a new switch loop, or wire fished across a finished ceiling or wall, that's licensed-electrician work and we'll tell you so instead of taking it on. Older SF and East Bay homes sometimes hide surprises behind the canopy — cloth wiring, no ground, an undersized box — and we'll flag anything that should be corrected before the new fixture goes up.

Good questions

Light fixture FAQ

How much does light fixture installation cost?

A straight swap of a flush mount or vanity light at an existing fixture is quick and affordable; a heavy chandelier on a high ceiling takes more time and gear. Tell us the fixture and the ceiling, and we'll quote it upfront — estimates are free and the price is set before work starts.

Can you hang a chandelier on a high or stairwell ceiling?

Yes. Heavy chandeliers and two-story stairwell fixtures need a properly rated box and the right lift or ladder, both of which we bring. For very heavy pieces we confirm the box and bracing are rated for the weight before hanging.

Can you add a dimmer or smart switch?

Yes — swapping a standard switch for a dimmer or a smart switch at an existing switch location is a common add-on. We match the dimmer to your bulbs (LED-compatible) and set up smart switches on your Wi-Fi where they support it.

Can you install a light where there isn't one now?

If there's an existing box or switch to work from, often yes. If it means running a new circuit or fishing new wire through a finished ceiling or wall, that's licensed-electrician work — we'll tell you honestly and can refer you to one.

Do you take down and dispose of the old fixture?

Yes — we remove the old fixture, cap things safely, install the new one, and take the old fixture and packaging away as part of a clean, single-visit job.
